Thanks for visiting!

Welcome to the official website of the Olde English Babydoll Southdown Sheep Association of Australia  Inc. (OEBSSAA).

We are a group of owners of Babydoll Southdown Sheep from all over Australia who are passionate about continuing this original breed of Southdowns, now known as “Babydolls”, an American term which has been informally adopted in Australia.

We are very keen for more members and welcome your input.  If you become a member, you will receive:

  1. The opportunity to become involved in our Facebook Member's page, where you can ask for information, advice or advertise your own or view members’ Babydoll sheep for sale.
  2. Newsletters, with the opportunity to contribute.
  3. An opportunity to become part of this new and vibrant OEBSSAA Association and to help promote the breed.

If you wish to join the OEBSSAA please follow the instructions on the Become a Member page.  The cost is $30.00 per year.

We are a non-profit organisation and our members’ Babydolls are registered with the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association (ASSBA).

Our Babydolls are gorgeous sheep.  They are smaller in size than most other breeds of sheep and have a lovely docile temperament which makes working with them much easier than many other breeds.  Their woolly face and perennial teddy bear smiles makes people become smitten with them at first glance and sometimes they are known as the “Teddy Bear” sheep, especially in America.

Babydolls are the perfect size for organic vineyards and orchards. Their smaller stature and longer body length means they are more suited to graze under vines and trees without damaging them. In addition they cannot reach up on two legs to eat the higher leaves of the plant which further reduces the risk of damage. They organically fertilize the land as they graze which is an added advantage.

Babydolls are an ideal size for children and older people to handle.  Their lovely temperament means the possibility of injury is lessened.

The Babydoll ram makes a fine prime lamb sire.

Fleece:  The Babydoll fleece is typically “Downs” fleece. It’s quite short but lovely and springy. The quality of the fleece depends a lot on the individual sheep and from where it comes.
